One-dimensional hierarchical layered [K.sub.x]Mn[O.sub.2] (x < 0.3) nanoarchitectures: Synthesis, characterization, and their magnetic properties
Article Abstract:
One-dimensional (1D) hierarchical nanostructure of ultra long layered [K.sub.x]Mn[O.sub.2] (x < 0.3) bundles was successfully prepared by a PEG-assisted hydrothermal method based on the reaction of KMn[O.sub.4] with 2-ethylhexanol. It was found that 2-ethylhexanol, PEG-400, KOH and reaction time play an important role in the synthesis of the nanobundles and the obtained samples show ferromagnetic behavior below 32K and paramagnetic behavior above 32K making the system a promising base for magnetic devices.

Synthesis of hematite ([alpha]-[Fe.sub.2][O.sub.3]) nanorods: Diameter-size and shape effects on their applications in magnetism, lithium ion battery, and gas sensors
Article Abstract:
The shape controlled synthesis of hematite ([alpha]-[Fe.sub.2][O.sub.3]) nanostructures with a gradient in the diameters and surface areas through an improved synthetic strategy is described. High concentration of inorganic salts and high temperature in the synthesis systems are adopted due to which the sample pyrolyze at a slower rate and the corresponding well-defined hematite nanostructures are formed.

Layered copper hydroxide n-alkylsulfonate salts: Synthesis, characterization and magnetic behaviors in relation to the Basal spacing
Article Abstract:
Starting from copper hydroxy nitrate Cu2(OH3)-NO3, a series of hybrid inorganic -organic copper(II) hydroxy n-alkylsulfonate with a triangular lattice, Cu2(OH3)-(CnH(sub 2n+1)SO3)(n=6,8,10) are prepared by anion exchange. All the compounds show similar metamagnet behaviors, with a Neel temperature of about 11 K.
